Tissue Fillers
With aging, sun exposure and smoking, we lose volume in and around the lips, and the bones that support the lips and teeth actually recede. Performed with topical and/or local anesthesia, filler materials are injected into the border of the lip to provide or restore definition and projection, and to “stretch out” the radial lip lines that cause lipstick to run. Fillers are injected into the body of the lip to give a fuller lip and to enhance the shape of the lip. Fillers may also be injected into the downturned corners of the lip and the “marionette lines” to reduce one’s frowning appearance. Dr. Van Ittersum prefers Restylane and Cosmoplast for lip augmentation; he and his staff will discuss with you both the best type and quantity of filler to achieve your desired result.
